Here is a great question: Does your district have a process/practice/protocol for the naming of their facilities? For example Mark Broderson Aquatic Center in Crook County
Please leave a comment below if you do.
Thanks for you input.
We don't in Converse 2.
We currently do not have a policy in place but are working through the process right now. In my previous district in Iowa we adopted a policy. I used that policy as a template for the one that we are currently working on in Goshen County.
I copied and pasted the first paragraph below. If you would like me to share the entire policy feel free to let me know.
Purpose:
The Board of Trustees recognizes the official name selected for a facility is a vital factor in the public image of the community. It is the intent of the trustees to name schools and other facilities in the district in a manner that evokes pride in students, school employees, parents/guardians, and the community. Naming facilities or part of facilities is the sole authority of the Board of Education. All naming decisions will be consistent with the vision, mission, beliefs, and goals of the Goshen County School District.
We have a little section in this policy: https://www.ccsd1.org/apps/publications/show_document.jsp?pdREC_ID=15185

4.7.2 Naming School Facilities or Areas Within the School District
Here is our policy:
Names of District schools, facilities or rooms within either District schools or facilities shall be decided by the Board after input from stakeholders. The Board shall have the final decision in the naming of the school.
We do not have policy but we do have a practice not to name facilities after anyone. We have other ways of honoring folks through our Hall of Fame.
We have a policy that does not allow for naming of schools or facilities after anyone. We do accept donations for things like a scoreboard or other items, and will recognize donors for that.
Policy FF: New schools and their athletic fields will be named after the town, city, or area in which they are
located and will not be named for individuals, families or businesses.
The District recognizes that there may be an interest in memorializing or recognizing an employee, student, community member, or community group who has made a significant contribution to the District or school. In those circumstances people will be encouraged to do one of the following:
1. Establish a scholarship for students or staff
2. Contribute funds for a specific purpose (such as library materials, instruments, equipment or furniture)
3. Dedicate a room or section of the building (auditorium, vocational wing)
4. Donate an item from the school’s Donation Wish List (bench, table, plants, etc.)
