District Staff Daycare and Preschool

by Discussion Forum

Question:

Is your District involved in an employee-only daycare? Do your employees have exclusive access to daycare as a benefit?

This is stemming from an idea to have a benefit for low-cost daycare for employees as part of a cooperative with other businesses in town in order to increase recruitment and retention.

Thanks in advance.

We have a daycare for staff and prioritise space for any students with children. We use it as a teaching/child development lab for students interested in pursuing careers in teaching and early childhood.

We offer preschool for free to anyone in the community for 4 year olds. Any community member may request a 3 year old to enter the program and stay in our on campus preschool for 2 years if space is available.

Yes - we do this in TCSD. Payment for childcare comes out of their paycheck so it is pre-tax.
We do open it up to students in the district with children if space is available.

Sheridan 1 does not have a daycare, but we do offer a 3 and 4 year old pre-school, on a fee basis. We provide the space on campus for it in Big Horn.

Converse 1 has offered daycare to staff for a reasonable fee. This upcoming year will be our last year to offer it. We were supplementing it to the tune of about $75K a year. Did not ever really seem to be a draw for new employees.
