Home School Process and Approval
How do you all handle the ‘approval of home school curriculum’ as per state statute? W.S. 21-4-101(a)(vi) WDE Home-Schooling Information
If a parent submits: ‘My student will use Easy Breezey Home Schooling for Math” Does that meet your requirements? Is that enough of a curriculum summary?
How hard do you push home-school parents if they do not submit in a timely manner?
Either my Curriculum Director or myself normally approves the curriculum for home school applicants. We access the curriculum website and do a bit of background to make sure it is a valid program - but we are not extremely "picky".
We are similar to Jim, in that we look it up and if it's a legit site, we don't question it. The only time we push is if they don't submit anything. Then we do a home visit to request the information and turn them in for educational neglect if they don't file with us. (I have never had to do that.)
We are similar as well...but we have never really questioned a curriculum provided by the parent since I've been in the district.
We’re the same as Paige.
Weston 1 only recognizes the request..
We have a form that we ask the parents to fill out..most are cooperative some are not and just send us the names of the program. We review to make sure the 5 content areas are being addressed and then we submit to the board for acceptance..not approval as there is not approval required in statute. So the board accepts the programs as being in compliance with the requirements in statute.
